Pavers in a Bucket

Natasha Dickins

Here’s a cheap and cheerful DIY solution for fun landscaping. It doesn’t take long or cost much, and the pavers can be any colour.

I used some inexpensive buckets, a bag of fast-setting concrete, coloured oxide and a bonding agent. Large measuring vessels are also useful for the Bondcrete-to-water ratios.

Colourful stepping pavers made in a bucket? Why not? It’s a quick, low-cost project that adds some fun to landscaping.

WHAT YOU NEED
Bondall Bondcrete Universal Bonding Agent
Measuring jugs
Clean water
Buckets
Fast-set high-strength concrete
Coloured oxide
Large paint stirrer
WD-40 lubricant
Sponge
Bondall Betta Tilecare Stone & Concrete Sealer
Mini roller with tray

In a measuring jug, pour in one part Bondall Bondcrete Universal Bonding Agent (100ml) and 10 parts water (1L) and stir to combine.

TIP Bondcrete contains resin that acts as a binder to ensure a professional result free from cracking.

Into a bucket, measure 20 parts fast-set high-strength concrete (five cups) and one part coloured oxide (1/4 cup) and stir to combine.

TIP To make pink pavers, combine white oxide with a sprinkle of red. For tan pavers, use a sandstone colour, or combine with white for pale yellow.

Gradually add the Bondcrete water solution, mixing it into a thick paste using a large stirrer.

TIP Note you may not need all the solution. The mixture should be the consistency of toothpaste, not too thick or runny.

Spray lubricant into a clean bucket and pour out the excess. Drop in the mixture. Tap and shake the bucket for at least a minute to remove any air bubbles. Leave to cure for a couple of hours.

TIP Transferring the mixture to a clean, lubricated bucket ensures no dry mix holds in the corners so the paver drops out cleanly and the top is smooth.

Wearing a glove, tip the paver onto your hand. Wipe over the top with a damp sponge to smooth out any scratches and leave to dry.

TIP The concrete shrinks slightly as it dries so should pop out of the bucket easily. Tap the base with your other hand if it needs a little help.

Seal the top and around the side of the paver with two coats of Bondall Betta Tilecare Stone & Concrete Sealer using a mini roller and leave to dry thoroughly.

Set the pavers out to make a path and surround with pebbles or bed into lawn.

Love the pink concrete? Add a little sparkle and turn it into terrazzo for furniture. Here’s how.
